SMART Tutorial

I recently attened a Smartboard tutorial session at the Mount and found it to be very useful. Since I'm not currently in the classroom, I wanted to see how some of the basic features of this technology could improve student learning for myself. After getting off to a rough start with some technical difficulties we got down to some of the basics:
  • Turning written text into typed text
  • Saving notes that you've written on the board for future use
  • Moving objects around on the board
  • How to "clone" things for unlimited use
  • Using the internet to look up images to incorporate into class discussions

Our instructor also showed us how to access games in our subject area to use for classroom use. These games can be used as a great tool to review material that students have learned in a fun, interactive way.

The session proved to be successful for me because I walked away feeling as though the Smartboard is user friendly and with practice can be a useful, interactive tool in the classroom. I wish we had more time to work with the board itself but due to the technical difficulties we ran out of time. However, I will definately be signing up when they offer another tutorial to learn more! On a positive note, due to the difficulties we were all invited to attend the next session free of charge.
